Pink Colour Trend AW13

The new season is awash with a sea of pink. The colour was pretty prominent in the London shows back in February with the likes of Mulberry, Moschino Cheap&Chic and Simone Rocha catching my eye with a scrummy mixture of powdery and sour shades. All of which  compelled me to confront my fears and embrace pink, subsequently starting a hot affair that I just can't get enough of.
Pink is a daunting choice at first, but by taking inspiration from the androgynous trends lurking around it doesn't seem oh so scary after all. For example, bright pink pieces fit right in with the 90s grunge attack whilst dusky tones put a feminine spin on the Mod street mood. Of course, the colour focus still hails pure femininity with sweet sherbet and candies nodding to the suburban 50s.

Topshop Unique AW13
If you do want to try out a bit of pink as the new AW13 season approaches head to wonderful Toppers for some great picks. After clearly taking inspiration from their high fashion sister Topshop Unique,  I feel the British highstreet saviours have served up a beautiful array of choice.
Clockwise from top right; crop cami £15 knitted crotchet top £28 round sunnies £16 fluffy tee £24 earrings £8.50 slip dress £38 block shell top £30 pleated skirt £35 satchel £28 ruffle shell top £34
The fluffy tee has to be my ultimate buy of the season though, as not only does it look insanely comfortable but it also ticks off the texture craze flooding the fashion world at the moment. Gorgeous.
Which of the ten picks is your favourite? Are you a converted pink lady?

Polka Dots Never Fade

So the polka dot t-shirt is coming in very useful as it goes with practically any bottoms, the main culprits being the trusty Jonis from Topshop. However, with it being such a beautiful day on Friday I couldn't resist getting these hot pink, relaxed shorts out from River Island; finally starting to brave the world bare-legged again eek. The transition is always hard, never knowing when the perfect (and socially acceptable) time is to kick off the full blown Summer wardrobe, but with all this sunshine I took a risk.

I bought the shorts in a charity shop last Summer and thought they may be a bit of a one hit wonder bargain, but with the sports luxe trend still sizzling on, and comfort being a key this season I'm happy to whip them back out. My chuffness continues regarding my recent haul, with this Forever21 tee proving to be great addition to my staples. Not only does it coincide with the Pop Art trend buzzing around thanks to Lichtenstein and co., but in my opinion polka dots never fall from fashion; there's always a hint of the quirky print in each seasons collections. So here's hoping this is something I can also pull out time and time again.

Hope you're enjoying the long May weekend, I'm trying to take advantage of these blue skies as much as possible.

Hand-Me-Downs

A few months ago my dear Nan had a clear out and sweetly thought of me in the process, putting aside a huge pile of clothes to rummage through. I was delighted by the vintage pieces, a fleecy white peacoat from her teenage years, a knitted green pullover my great-gran made for my dad when he was a young boy and a few belt buckles from my Grandad's time in the royal marines. Sentimental treasures that I can pull into my own personal style, and give a new lease of life to, something my Nan was so very happy about. My favourite hand-me-down of all has to be these plaid trousers, I couldn't wait to style these babies up as I've been crushing over anything plaid recently. Despite the short length (hence the awkward turn ups) they fit perfectly around my waist, just snug enough with a high waist keeping me tucked in.

It's not often that I wear trousers, they're just not as appealing as others bottoms out there so surprised myself with my bold fashion bravery haha. This may actually be the start of a trouser love affair. What do you think of my vintage hand-me-downs? Have you fallen for the plaid/ heritage trend?

Polka Dot Geek.

Lazy Sunday post of a uni outfit last week, a bit of geek chic don't you think? Perhaps it reflects how studious I've been lately, uni is serious..huge amounts of work, not that I'm complaining too much as it's work that's enjoyable and actually quite interesting, perks of being a fashion student. Which reminds me, did anyone go see 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' at the cinema, I thought it was such a brilliant film, didn't get distracted once and Emma Watson really has dropped the Hermoine label, highly recommend a watch.

This outfit just reminds me of how much I need to sort out another pair of glasses, the ones I'm currently wearing are hideous and rather scratched. Anywho, this outfit needs a quirky, geeky pair of frames to complete it don't you think?

Pinch of Petals.

Last Summer this floral headband basically lived on my head, but this year it retired to one of my many storage boxes that I never think to open and left hoping for next Summer. Snooping through said boxes, I rediscovered the head candy and thought autumn could do with some blossoms, so alas it's time has come. Because who says flowers are only for Summer? Why can't we flaunt some flower power during the dull, grim days too...especially in a season when head accessories are all the rave.

Although I really do love the head candy trend, no matter how pretty they are it always seems like a lot of faffing about, and I always end up touching/ readjusting my hair because the band feels like it's slipping. Though this may just be me and my big head, it genuinely is bigger than an average head I'm sure haha, I'm afraid my headbands or alike will stay put in the forgotten boxes...until next time.
I'm off to rummage through the fridge for another petit filous...undoubtedly one on of THE best yogurts ever made. Scrum.

Shifty Sequins.

This creamy sequin number was the basis for my girls night out last night, after umming and awwwing over it on many previous nights out before I finally wore the charity shop find. Everything from the shape to the colour makes this my dreamy dress; muted sequins have been popping up all season and the colour keeps in theme with the under-the-sea pearly trend. The shiftiness kept me weary of too many black accessories as sixties, monochrome dress-up wasn't what us girls were going for, but I find the shape makes the dress much more wearable (given it's completely covered in sequins).

The only grumble I have is the length, so a trusty body con skirt underneath kept my dignity when I boogied on down, nothing out of the ordinary for H&M lengths though really, there bottoms always seem rather short don't they?
The night with the gals was lovely, many of giggles. Definitely need more of those before the Summer is out! Hope all you girls our having a wonderful weekend and enjoying all the inspirational olympic tv!

Bootilust.

I know, I know. It's still summer and I should be lusting over the perfect pair of sandals or summer heels, but I'm afraid the autumnal boot collections are making an appearance and it's hard to contain my excitement. Ankle boots are, for me, the best shoe...comfortable, transeasonal and versatile. Luckily for me, AW12 looks like a big one for my old friends, with the western trend sticking around; cuban heels, studs and tassels galore.
studded Office, £70 Zara, £69.99 Kurt Geiger, £120
zipped Kurt Geiger, £150 Office, £80 Oasis, £68
tasselled Asos, £28 Asos, £85 Very.co.uk, £50
unusual Missguided, £14.99 River Island, £85 Zara, £119

The 'unusuals' are ones that I wouldn't normally go for, however there's something about these. For one, the ankle welly boots are just the perfect for this weather, and scream cuteness in the red. Secondly, the River Island JC-esque boots just seem so unique, the aztec print is what sways me yet I just don't get to wear heels enough to make use of this babies. Lastly, the Zara ones. These are way out my footwear comfort zone, BUT these have stolen my style heart haha.
This list is going to come in handy for the next season, even if some of them are slightly out of my price range I shall use them as inspiration. Any of you guys excited about next season buys?

Sequins in Brighton.

On Thursday my sister and I went to Brighton, one of my favourites. My ten year plan definitely includes moving to Brighton it has everything, and each time I go I discover something new and quirky to fall in love with. We were going along to a Kate Nash gig in the evening, and decided to make a day of it, which meant try not to buy everything we saw so we didn't have to carry it all around. It was hard. We have had some cheery temperatures (hooray), but layering is still essential; it is Britain after all.

The gig was different to what we expected, Kate played all her new stuff which is more rocky and out there, we fancied a good sing-a-long but could only really sing a long to a few. But I guess she needs to promote her new music and I'm sure we will be singing along to that soon enough. Her albums are my go-tos when I need cheering up as they are always so bouncy and happy.
Hope you guys have all had lovely weeks!
